MANILA, Philippines–Classes at all levels in public and private schools and local government offices in Marikina City are suspended on Monday for the opening parade and ceremonies of the 63rd Palarong Pambansa.

Mayor Marcy Teodoro on Saturday said the decision was made to allow Marikina residents to witness the annual sports event.

“We invite everyone to witness and be part of the 63rd Palarong Pambansa, where the City of Marikina is the host city,” Teodoro said.

The 63rd Palarong Pambansa will commence on Monday, July 31,  and will run until August 5. The event will be held at the Marikina Sports Center and will feature athletes from 17 regions across the country.

Earlier, the city officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Education, marking their partnership for the national sports event.

The MOA was signed by Teodoro and Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte.

Following the signing of the agreement, Duterte inspected several facilities in the city, including the swimming pool and the oval track of the Marikina Sports Center, which will be used for the competition.

The Palarong Pambansa is a yearly multi-sport event that showcases the athletic prowess of students from 17 regions across the country.
