14 reported dead, over 21,000 displaced due to Egay, southwest monsoon

MANILA, Philippines — Fourteen people have reportedly died while more than 21,000 individuals were displaced due to the combined effects of tropical cyclone Egay (international name: Doksuri) and the enhanced southwest monsoon.
In its bulletin issued at 8 a.m. on Saturday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 14 people died, 13 were injured, and 20 are still missing due to the weather disturbances.
Of these 14 deaths, six were already confirmed while the remaining eight are still for validation.
NDRRMC likewise bared that 21,812 individuals were displaced due to the cyclone and monsoon rains. Days after Egay left the country’s area of responsibility, the council said at least 15,851 people remained in evacuation centers.
Overall, the harsh weather has affected 164,430 families or 582,288 persons in 13 regions, 45 provinces, 306 municipalities, and 1,752 barangays.
Meanwhile, in terms of damage to agriculture, NDRRMC’s data showed that as of Saturday, this has ballooned to P832,815,645.
The state weather bureau said Egay left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday, July 27. But weather specialist Benison Estareja, in a public forecast on Saturday morning, said Egay — which is now in mainland China – is still enhancing the southwest monsoon that is currently affecting Luzon and Visayas.
