Camarines Norte’s most wanted falls after escape

NAGA CITY—A robbery-homicide suspect who bolted jail in Labo, Camarines Norte, on April 17 was captured on Saturday, police said Sunday.

Senior Superintendent Joselito Esquivel, the Camarines Norte police director, said Ramil Trinidad was captured by police past 8 a.m. in Barangay (village) Malikboy in Pagbilao, Quezon.

Arrested with Trinidad was Marlon Valencia, 37, who allegedly helped Trinidad escape. Trinidad and Valencia are both residents of Labo town.

Police were still pursuing Trinidad’s brother Ronel, who also took part in the escape but was able to elude arrest, Esquivel said.

Ronel and Valencia would be charged with harboring a crime suspect at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in the capital town of Daet, said Esquivel.

Trinidad escaped from the Labo jail just four days after he was arrested in Barangay Sta. Maria in Calauag, Quezon, on April 13. He is facing robbery with homicide charges at a regional trial court in Daet for the killing of a couple in Talisay town on Oct. 23, 2011.

Trinidad’s escape past 9 p.m. on April 17 was done with the help of Jonabelle Raneses, the prisoner’s live-in partner.

Raneses, according to Esquivel, came to visit Trinidad in his cell, bringing with her bottled water and personal belongings of Trinidad.

Trinidad ran outside the jail, jumped over a concrete fence surrounding the police station and fled, Esquivel said.

Raneses, who was arrested for facilitating the escape and is now detained at the police station in the neighboring Talisay town, faces obstruction of justice charges.

Trinidad was brought back to the cell where he escaped from and where Valencia was also detained.
