MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has dispatched 200 personnel to distribute almost P3 million food packs and essential supplies to communities affected by Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) nationwide.

PNP said it conducted a send-off ceremony for its Search and Rescue (SAR) and Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) on Friday as part of the police organization Adopt a Region program.

“Through the Adopt-a-Region Operation, we stand united in our mission to provide aid and support to our brothers and sisters in need,” PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said in a statement.

He added that the 200 police personnel were trained specifically for emergency response to address the needs of typhoon or disaster-hit residents.

Relief and preparedness plan

Aside from the Adopt a Region program, Acorda likewise revealed the police force’s plan for its comprehensive relief operations for communities affected by Egay.

Among them are food bank readiness and deployment or the inventory of goods and items stored in respective storage of evacuation centers; utilization of specialized resources — to address the needs of affected areas and installation of desalination machines to provide access to clean water and collaboration for relief and transport with highway patrol and maritime groups.

Meanwhile, PNP units in areas under a state of calamity are strictly monitoring market activities against profiteering, hoarding, and unfair trade practices in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry and local government units.
