Egay’s agricultural damage hits P62 million, says DA

MANILA, Philippines — The damage wrought by typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) on the crop sector has climbed to P62 million on Friday, the Department of Agriculture (DA) announced.

Based on the 8 a.m. bulletin of DA-Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), Egay has affected 3,679 farmers in Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), and Caraga.

DA-DRRM said the affected commodities include rice, corn, livestock, and poultry, with a volume of production loss of 2,035.4 metric tons spanning 4,315 hectares of agricultural areas.

Additional damage and losses are expected in the coming days in areas hit by Egay as DA’s regional field offices continuously conduct assessments of damage in the provinces.

The department also instructed local government units and DRRM-related offices to assist farmers and fishermen.

It intends to provide rice, corn, assorted vegetable seeds, medicines, fingerlings (for fisherfolks) and a Survival and Recovery loan program, among others.
