Heavy rain alert in Luzon parts due to Typhoon Egay

MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rainfall alert has been raised in some provinces of Luzon due to the effects of Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri), according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

According to its 11 a.m. heavy rainfall update, Pagasa said some provinces within the region were placed under “red,” “orange,” and “yellow” warnings, which means flooding and landslides may occur, especially in low-lying areas.

The state weather bureau said a red warning is raised when rainfall reaches 30 millimeters (mm) to 65 mm, orange when rain is between 15 mm and 30 mm, and yellow when rainfall ranges from 7.5 mm and 15 mm.

Based on its cyclone bulletin, Pagasa said that Egay made its second landfall over Dalupiri Island in Aparri, Cagayan, around 10 a.m., moving southwestward at 15 kilometers per hour (kph).

The typhoon is carrying maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gusts of up to 240 kph, the state weather bureau said.
