MANILA, Philippines — A group of truckers gathered along a street in Manila on Friday to protest the toll increase in North Luzon Expressway (NLEx).

Manila Police District (MPD) said about 40 trucks were parked along Anda Circle in Manila and about a hundred persons joined in the demonstration.

The protest against the toll increase in NLEx started at around 5:00 a.m.

The movement partly blocked the traffic flow in the area for three hours.

The protesters dispersed at eight in the morning.

“Ang mga pinaka naapektuhan, iyong mga southbound (the most affected are those who were southbound),” said MPD spokesperson Philipp Ines.

Ines also said the protesters’ action had no permit.

NLEx implemented a toll increase last June 15.

Motorists traveling the expressway from end to end, beginning in Metro Manila up to Sta. Ines town in Bulacan, now pay an additional P33 (from P299 to 332) for Class 1 vehicles.

Drivers of Class 2 vehicles pay P81 more (from P748 to P829).

Motorists for Class 3 vehicles pay an additional amount of P98 (from P897 to P995).
