MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) on Tuesday said that Cotabato Airport and General Santos Airport suffered no damage after the magnitude 5.3 earthquake in Sarangani the previous night.
“Caap reported no damages to airport facilities at Cotabato Airport and General Santos Airport,” the agency said in a statement.
“Managers of both airports immediately assessed and inspected the structures and confirmed the absence of any significant damage to passenger terminal buildings and other airport facilities,” it added.
According to Caap, General Santos Airport has resumed normal flight operations, with the terminal and runway fully operational.
On the other hand, Cotabato Airport remains closed due to ongoing asphalt overlay and repainting of runway markings from July 6 until August 18, 2023.
Caap then assured the public that it already coordinated with local authorities and agencies to prepare for aftershocks, continue to monitor the situation to provide necessary updates and ensure the safe operation of flights in the affected areas.
