MANILA, Philippines – Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers will be experienced across the Philippines due to the trough or extension of the low pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao and the southwest monsoon, said the state weather bureau on Tuesday.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Grace Castañeda, in a public forecast that aired 5 a.m. on Tuesday, said the LPA was last seen 810 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao.
“Sa kasalukuyan ay wala itong direct effect sa anumang bahagi ng bansa, ngunit ang trough or extension nito ngayong araw ay magdudulot ng kalat-kalat na pag-ulan sa silangang bahagi ng Mindanao,” said Castañeda, adding that it particularly affects Caraga and Davao Region.
(Currently, it does not have a direct effect on any part of the country, but today, its trough or extension will bring scattered rain in the eastern part of Mindanao.)
Pagasa’s latest analysis showed that the LPA may develop into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours.
“Nakikita natin na posible itong kumilos pa-northwestward at maaari itong lumapit sa area ng northern Luzon sa mga susunod na araw. [Ngunit] meron pa ring posibilidad na magbago ang ating scenario dito sa LPA na ito so continuous monitoring pa rin po tayo,” Castañeda added.
(We are seeing that it may move northwestward and may approach the northern Luzon area in the next few days. But there is still a possibility that our scenario will change so we are still continuously monitoring it.)
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, locally called “habagat,” is affecting the western sections of Luzon and Visayas. With this prevailing weather system, cloudy skies and rain showers will still be experienced in Zambales and Bataan.
In Metro Manila and the rest of the country, chances of isolated rain caused by the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms, are not ruled out.
