Navy ship to be sunk in exercise runs aground

The BRP Lake Caliraya (AF-81) , a decommissioned Philippine Navy ship scheduled to be sunk during a military exercise, ran aground in Bataan province on Friday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

BRP Caliraya beached near the shores off Sitio Crossing in Barangay Poblacion, Morong town around 8 a.m.

The ship was set to be used as a mock enemy target by a joint team of Marines from the Philippines and the United States this week, during the semi-annual Marine Aviation Support Activity (Masa) 2023.

Philippine and US Marines were supposed to sink the BRP Caliraya 22 kilometers (12 nautical miles) off the bay of the Naval Station Leovigildo Gantioqui in San Antonio, Zambales province on Thursday.
