MANILA, Philippines — Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. instructed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to immediately identify the factors behind flooding in Metro Manila amnd other parts of the country.
“Mariin [akong] nananawagan sa pamunuan ng MMDA at DPWH na tukuyin kung bakit mas napakabilis ng pagbaha kumpara dati at napaka bagal naman ng paghupa,” said Revilla in a statement.
(I’m calling on the leadership of the MMDA and DPWH to determine why the flooding is so much faster than before, and subsides slowly.)
“Hinahanap kasi ng mga tao ‘yung sinasabi ng DPWH na kabuuang 13,224 flood control structures na inihanda nila sa buong bansa. [H]indi na dapat kasi nangyayari ang ganitong problema kaya dapat ayusin sa lalong madaling panahon,” he added.
(People are looking for the 13,224 flood control structures that the DPWH said they have prepared nationwide,. This kind of problem should not be happening anymore so it should be fixed as soon as possible.)
Heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday flooded many parts of Metro Manila, which snarled vehicular traffic and stranded thousands of commuters.
