MANILA, Philippines — Senator Jinggoy Estrada on Wednesday said the national government should improve its e-government services and processes to “reduce red tape” and expedite the nation’s digital transformation.
Estrada stated this after the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) introduced a free application that will make Overseas Employment Certificates (OECs) free of charge.
“These bold and innovative steps mark a significant milestone in ensuring the welfare and well-being of our modern-day heroes. By eliminating unnecessary fees in issuing Overseas Employment Certificates (OECs), we’re showing them the respect and appreciation they deserve. I’m hoping we could sustain and build on the digital transformation of government operations and processes to increase efficiency, productivity, and transparency,” Estrada said in a statement.
Estrada, who also sits as the chairperson of the Senate committee on labor, employment, and human resources development, said the administration should follow this initiative and enhance its electronic government services and processes, including the “implementation of online payment system and business registration-related transactions.”
“Marami ng bansa ang nagpapatupad ng iba’t ibang uri ng e-government at nagkaroon na ng digital transformation ng kanilang financial system upang mapaigting ang pagbibigay ng serbisyo sa publiko. Kailangan natin sumabay sa mga pagbabagong ito,” he concluded.
(Many countries are now implementing different types of e-government and have already had a digital transformation of their financial system to intensify the provision of services to the public. We have to keep up with these changes.)
