MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Sariaya, Quezon, has offered a P200,000 reward for anyone who could give information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect who attacked and killed Barangay Guis-Guis San Roque captain Benedicto Robo last Friday.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Sariaya Municipal Police Station said anyone with vital information on suspect Marvin Flores’ location may contact them through mobile phone numbers 0919-730-2113 and 0998-598-5780 or reach out to any police station near their area.
Police said Robo was eating outside a basketball court around 11:30 p.m. on Friday after watching a local tournament when he was repeatedly shot by Marvin Flores, a resident of Barangay Bignay 2, using a handgun.
The gunman fled after the incident.
Robo, 62, was taken to Lucena United Doctors Hospital and Medical Center in neighboring Lucena City but died while undergoing treatment at 12:59 a.m. Saturday.
The latest investigation report said before the shooting, Robo castigated the drunk Flores for his behavior which ended in a heated argument.
Robo just left Flores to avoid further altercation. But Flores followed and shot him.
Sariaya Vice Mayor Alex Tolentino, in a phone interview Saturday, expressed grief for the untimely death of the two-termer village official.
“He was a kind person and hardworking barangay captain,” Tolentino said.
Colonel Ledon Monte, Quezon police chief, vowed that policemen will not stop the manhunt to arrest Flores to give justice to Robo’s death.
“We are saddened by the loss of barangay captain Robo in the line of duty. We will not stop until justice is served for him, his family, and especially for his constituents whom he faithfully served,” Monte said in a statement posted on Quezon police’s Facebook page on Saturday.
According to Quezon police, an ongoing operation to hunt Flores down has been launched since Robo’s death.
