2 hurt, 50 houses damaged in Davao City blaze

DAVAO CITY — A man and his 6-year-old daughter were hurt in a fire that hit several communities in this city before midnight on Tuesday, the police said on Wednesday.

Fifty houses were damaged by the blaze that swept through three communities in Barangay 23-C, a report from the city police said.

Mary Aly Rose Ilagan suffered third degree burns and her 28-year-old father, Journey Dave, had second degree burns in the body.

They are now being treated at the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

An investigation by Fire Officer Michael Tonzo Gamut showed that the fire broke out at 11:55 p.m. at Purok 5-B and quickly spread to Purok 1 and Purok 6.

The blaze affected at least 86 families, according to the City Social Welfare and Development Office. Many displaced residents sought shelter at the village covered court.

Firefighters put off the blaze at 2:42 a.m. on Wednesday, authorities said.

Damage to properties was placed at P500,000.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
