MANILA, Philippines — A 78-year-old man was arrested for reportedly raping his 12-year-old granddaughter in Pasig City.
Pasig City Police Station (CPS) on Thursday said its personnel apprehended the suspect in their home in Greenpark Village, Barangay Manggahan.
The operatives were prompted by the victim’s mother’s request for assistance.
Based on the report, the victim was playing computer games with her older brother.
Her brother was asked to leave the room for an errand, leaving the girl alone.
During this time, the suspect approached the girl.
The suspect allegedly molested and raped the victim.
He also was said to have intimidated his granddaughter, telling her to keep the crimes done to her a secret.
When her brother returned, the suspect went out.
However, when the brother left the room again, the suspect returned and allegedly continued to subject the victim to rape and assault.
The grandfather reportedly committed the sexual offenses against his grandchild despite her pleas for him to stop.
Afraid of the suspect, the victim did not report what happened to her mother and siblings.
She eventually confided to a close friend, who informed the girl’s immediate family about the crimes.
After the suspect was arrested, the victim was referred to the Philippine National Police Forensic Unit for a physical examination.
Both the victim and the suspect were subsequently brought to the police station for the filing of charges.
Police said the suspect would face complaints for violating Article 266-A of the Revised Penal Code (for rape).
The victim’s grandfather will also be charged with Article 3 of Republic Act 7610 or Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
