Another arrest warrant out for Joavan

In a span of nine days, a second warrant of arrest has been issued against Joavan Fernandez.

Judge Pamela Uy of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities Branch 6 yesterday issued a warrant for Fernandez’s arrest after the adopted son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez failed to attend his scheduled arraignment yesterday morning.

In her order, Uy ordered the forfeiture of Joavan’s bail bond in favor of the state.

Lawyer George Bragat, Joavan’s counsel for various court cases, hasn’t made a formal entry of appearance before Judge Uy.

Joavan is facing charges of malicious mischief and direct assault for allegedly ramming his vehicle into a police car driven by Chief Insp. George Ylanan, chief of Cebu City’s Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB), last Feb. 6.

In a phone interview, Joavan said he wasn’t aware of the arraignment yesterday morning.

“Wala ko kahibaw. Wala man ko kadawat og subpoena. (I didn’t know about the scheduled arraignment. I haven’t received a notice regarding the court proceeding),” Joavan told Cebu Daily News.

Joavan said he was just at home in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City in the morning yesterday and attended the Movement Against Drugs (MAD) rally at the Fuente Osmeña rotunda in the afternoon.

Joavan has been tapped by Senior Supt. Melvin Buenafe, chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) to join the police in the illegal drugs campaign.

Last June 16, Joavan also failed to attend the arraignment before Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Enriqueta Belarmino of Branch 57 who is handling a drug case against him.
