LUCENA CITY — Police manning a checkpoint late Sunday, June 18, arrested a security guard for posing as a police officer and carrying illegal firearms in Calamba City, Laguna province.
The Region 4A police reported on Monday that motorcyclist Arnold Mayo was flagged down at 11:30 p.m. at a checkpoint in Barangay Bucal for using an improvised plate number “with the PNP SAF logo.”
The logo stands for Philippine National Police-Special Action Force.
Investigators said Mayo introduced himself as a police officer but presented “a fictitious PNP ID” and was immediately arrested.
During the preventive search, the suspect, who was found to be working as a security guard, yielded two caliber.45 pistols, five magazines, bullets, and seven PNP identification cards.
Mayo failed to produce license and permits for the firearms.
The suspect was detained while charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and usurpation of authority were being prepared. INQ
