Manila Water expands customer base to 7.6 million

East Zone concessionaire Manila Water continues to expand its customer base, with 8,247 new domestic and non-domestic water connections recorded for the 1st quarter of 2023, which is already 40% of its new water service connection target for the whole of 2023.

MANILA, Philippines — East Zone concessionaire Manila Water continues to expand its customer base, with 8,247 new domestic and non-domestic water connections recorded for the 1st quarter of 2023, which is already 40% of its new water service connection target for the whole of 2023.

Of the 8,247 new water service connections, 8,052 connections are residential and 195 are commercial and industrial water connections.

This increases Manila Water’s overall water service connections to 1,154,787, which translates to a total of 7,613,672 customers in the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal Province being provided with 24/7 water supply and quality sanitation services.

Manila Water ended 2022 with 7,460,705 customers served.

Manila Water has also recorded an increase in its sewer accounts, with 2,816 new sewer connections recorded from January to March 2023, 2,558 combined system accounts, and 258 separate system accounts.

In total, Manila Water’s sewer service connections reach 307,076, consisting of 71,029 under a separate system and 236,047 under the combined system.

“The continuous increase of our customer base means we’ve been successful in reaching out to more communities in need of quality water supply. This also comes with the responsibility of working harder and striving to further improve our services and ensure consistent 24/7 services, which is what we are committed to do since the establishment of Manila Water 25 years ago,” said Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water Corporate Communication Affairs Group Director.

Service accessibility and continuity projects under the 2023-2027 East Zone Service Improvement Plan are underway, enabling Manila Water to reach more unserved and underserved communities and ensure uninterrupted water supply even during calamities and emergencies.

Among the projects and programs to be undertaken from 2023 to 2027 are the rehabilitation and implementation of existing water, sewer and septage treatment plants, pump stations, lift stations and reservoirs, improving network reliability through pipelaying of reliability lines and rehabilitation of matured primary lines, automation of network distribution facilities and implementation of supply and customer meter, meter manifold and service pipe replacement program, and natural calamity risk mitigation projects.

Network expansion remains focused on Rizal to cover all towns and barangays in the province through the implementation of mainline extension and individualization projects.
