Corona appeals to media: Be fair
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines—Chief Justice Renato Corona on Wednesday appealed to the media to be fair in reporting facts and circumstances surrounding his impeachment trial.
Speaking before the media during the Supreme Court’s media forum on judiciary coverage, the Chief Justice admitted that he is not at all times happy with the reports he is seeing.
“Surely, it’s not all the time I feel happy about your reports. There are positive angles that were not highlighted in print and broadcast media,” Corona said.
He, however, said that being under media scrutiny is a consequence of being in government.
“But I know this is part of public service, you should not be here if you’re not ready to face this,” Corona said, also apologizing for moments he wasn’t accommodating to reporters because of tough times.
The Chief Justice is undergoing an impeachment trial for allegedly omitting properties in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth and jeopardized his integrity for flip flopping on final and executory cases.
