House body calls for intensified drive vs ‘colorum’

MANILA, Philippines – The House Committee on Metro Manila Development on Tuesday urged the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to act on “colorum” (unlicensed public utility) vehicles.

San Juan Representative Joseph Victor Ejercito, the committee chairman, called on the two agencies to resolve the issue on colorum vehicles seen plying major thoroughfares in the metropolis, saying that they have tried calling the LTFRB and LTO’s attention about the problem before.

Just last month, even the Philippine National Police was considering assisting the LTFRB and LTO in rounding up colorum vehicles.

Asked about their take on the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) plans to close 10 U-turn slots to ease traffic along EDSA, Libis and Quezon Avenue, Ejercito said that such a move should be studied first.
