Liberian traveler yields P55-M shabu; gets arrested at Naia

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities arrested a 34-year-old Liberian national and seized over P55-million worth of suspected crystal meth or “shabu,” during an anti-illegal drug operation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia), the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Tuesday.

According to PNP, its Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) and Naia-Inter Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (IADITG) operatives collared and identified suspect Philip Campbell — a mechanical engineer who arrived in the country through a flight from Doha, Qatar — following an interdiction operation on June 5.

Found in Campbell’s two checked-in baggage are 15 sachets of approximately 8,138 grams suspected shabu amounting to P55,338,400, along with a Liberian passport, two boarding passes, a customs baggage declaration form, and a mobile phone, the police report said.

Authorities turned over the arrested individual and pieces of drug evidence to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s custody, which will handle the necessary documentation to ensure the proper disposition of the case.

For its part, the PNP urges the public to report any suspicious or illegal drug-related activities to authorities.
