Comelec disqualifies An Waray party
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has canceled the registration of the An Waray party-list over an illegal assumption of seat of one of the party nominees nearly a decade ago.
In a 15-page resolution issued on Friday, June 2, Comelec’s second division granted the petition of Jude Acidre and Danilo Pornias to revoke An Waray’s accreditation as party-list and therefore disqualifying it from further participation in the House of Representatives.

The petitioners questioned the second seat given to An Waray in the 16th Congress, following the 2013 polls. The second seat was occupied by then Rep. Victoria Isabel Noel supposedly even without certification from the poll body as her party was allocated only one seat. —KATHLEEN DE VILLA
