MANILA, Philippines— The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) decried the “brazen media killing” of veteran radio broadcaster Cresenciano Aldovino Bunduquin in Oriental Mindoro.
CHR has also begun an independent investigation into the shooting through the commission’s Region IV-B chapter.
The Oriental Mindoro provincial police office has created a Special Investigation Task Group to conduct follow-up operations.
CHR hopes all these actions will “help ascertain accountability of perpetrators and bring justice to the victim and his family.”

Bunduquin was shot several times by motorcycle-riding assailants on Wednesday morning in Barangay Sta. Isabel, Calapan City.
The victim’s son allegedly went after the suspects and bumped their motorcycle.
One of the gunmen was injured and has since died, according to CHR.
“The local police are looking at all possible angles and are still determining whether the killing is in connection with the media profession of Bunduquin,” said the commission.
Bunduquin is the third media worker killed during President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s administration.
