Marcos congratulates House for cooperation, crafting important bills

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. thanked the House of Representatives for their “good work,” as the chamber crafted and passed bills that he believes are important to the country’s economic growth.

In a video message played at the House plenary on Wednesday night just before session adjourned, the Chief Executive said strong partnership between the legislative and the executive is important in terms of moving towards the future.

“I’d like to thank you for the hard work that you have put in. The cooperation between the Legislative and Executive branches have to be strong. That partnership is so important if we are to move towards the future,” Marcos stressed.

“I would like to thank you and to congratulate you on the good work that has been done and I look forward to see more of these outcomes from the Lower House as we discuss the important issues of the economy, on public health, job creation, climate change, all the different problems that you and I both face,” he added.

Marcos urged House members to remain ‘united’ and to continue their role of being the voice of their constituents.

“Remained united, determined, and passionate. Be the voice of the people and fulfill your duties as servant leaders in your respective districts and provinces,” the President asked the lawmakers.

“Thank you for the cooperation that you have given the Executive and let us make this partnership even stronger. Maraming salamat at mabuhay po tayong lahat,” he concluded.

Both the House and the Senate of the 19th Congress adjourned their first regular session on Wednesday, after approving key legislation like the proposed Maharlika Investment Fund.

House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez had the people in the chamber for working hard — filing over 9,600 measures and passing 33 of the 42 bills considered as priority legislation of the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (Ledac).

Among the accomplishments noted by Romualdez is the first-ever law signed by the President — the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card Registration Act.

Session is scheduled to resume on July 24, 2023 for the start of the second regular session.

Both Senate and House will convene in the morning of July 24, 2023.

In the afternoon, during a joint session of Congress, President Marcos will deliver his second State of the Nation Address.
