LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Classes and work in government offices and public and private schools in Ilocos provinces have been suspended on Tuesday, May 30, due to Typhoon Betty (international name: Mawar)

In a statement, Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc declared the suspension, which covered public offices and classes at all levels in public and private schools.

In Ilocos Sur, Gov. Jeremias “Jerry” Singson issued an executive order extending the suspension of work in public offices and classes in private and public schools at all levels on Tuesday.

Singson said the majority of the areas in the province had been experiencing heavy rain that could trigger flooding or landslides.

Singson and Manotoc have exempted from the suspension the government offices involved in emergency and disaster response and basic and health services to ensure the unhampered delivery of public services.

In La Union province, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David also suspended classes at all levels for both public and private schools on Tuesday due to the inclement weather. INQ
