MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives on Sunday committed to approving two administration priority measures on developing the salt industry and upgrading the Bureau of Immigration (BI) before Congress goes into sine adjournment this week.
With the lower chamber angling to go on break with a total of 33 of 42 approved Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (Ledac) bills, Deputy Minority Leader and ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro urged the Senate to prioritize the bill for the setup of permanent evacuation centers nationwide over the creation of the Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF).
In a statement on Sunday, Speaker Martin Romualdez assured that two priority bills: the Philippine Salt Industry Development Act and the BI Modernization Act, are set for third and final reading this week, which would bring to 33 the Ledac bills approved by the House.
Aside from the two measures set to be approved on the third reading, three other priority bills: the Natural Gas Industry Enabling Law; National Employment Action Plan; and the Philippine Ecosystem and Natural Capital Accounting System, are for second-reading approval this week.
