A policeman was arrested and detained for alleged indiscriminate firing in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
PO2 Henry De Luna, who is assigned at the Maritime Regional Office located under the Marcelo Fernan Bridge in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City, was allegedly drunk during the incident.
PO2 Cristito Raboy said members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)-Mandaue City rushed to a resto bar near the Parkmall after receiving a report that a man was seen firing a gun in the area.
The man who allegedly fired the gun was later identified as De Luna.
De Luna was brought to the Mandaue City Hospital where he tested positive for alcohol use, said PO2 Cristito Raboy.
De Luna denied he intentionally fired his .45 pistol.
He said he checked a commotion outside the resto bar but his firearm fell to the ground and went off.
De Luna’s service firearm was confiscated after the arrest.
Police said no one came forward to stand as a witness. But De Luna will still be charged on Monday for drunkenness and indiscriminate firing./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
