Three drown in Batangas resorts

LUCENA CITY — A Chinese national and two others drowned in separate incidents in Batangas province on Thursday and Friday (May 25 and 26).

The Batangas police said in a report on Saturday that one of the victims identified as On Ki Ng, 43, a Chinese national, was diving with a group in the sea off Barangay (village) Ligaya in Mabini town at around 4 p.m. on May 25.

Suddenly, his companion noticed that the victim was not responding to his signal. The victim was eventually found unconscious and immediately taken to the surface.

After receiving emergency first aid treatment, the victim was taken to a local hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

The police will subject the victim’s body to an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.

In San Juan town, Antonio Maruzo, 64, a barangay tanod (village watchman), was with other village officials in a resort in Barangay Laiya-Aplaya on Friday (May 26) for a social event.

At around 5:15 p.m., Maruzo and his companions went for a swim. Moments later, he was spotted drowning.

After he was rescued and provided with first-aid treatment, he was taken to San Juan District Hospital but died along the way.

Earlier, police reported that Nehmuel Luistro, 25, drowned while swimming with his cousins after he was swept away by strong currents to the deeper part of the sea in Barangay Barualte at around 4 p.m.
