MANILA, Philippines —The National Telecommunications Channel (NTC) directed telecommunications companies Friday to prepare for the impact of Super Typhoon Mawar and establish free charging and calling stations in areas that may be affected by the storm.

The NTC also ordered the companies to ensure adequate technical and support personnel, along with standby generators and extra fuel, are available for areas in Mawar’s path.

In preparation for Mawar’s aftermath, Lopez also instructed telecommunications entities to expedite repair and restoration of services in areas that could be severely affected by the typhoon.

Mawar is forecast to enter the Philippine area of responsibility Friday night or Saturday morning. While it’s not expected to make landfall, Mawar may intensify the southwest monsoon, triggering rains throughout the country over the weekend.
