CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela—Classes at all levels were canceled in San Mariano and Echague towns in Isabela on Friday (May 26), while the Viray Festival in Santa Ana town in Cagayan was postponed due to Super Typhoon Mawar.
San Mariano Mayor Edgar Go and Echague Mayor Francis Faustino Dy issued separate executive orders canceling Friday classes as a preventive measure ahead of the approaching typhoon.
Santa Ana Mayor Nelson Robinion canceled the Viray Festival set until May 29 as the local disaster response council was reactivated in anticipation of the onslaught of Mawar.
In Capo village in the City of Ilagan, vegetable farm owner Leni Melicotones and her farm workers began harvesting their crops to prevent these from being damaged.
Officials from the disaster risk reduction and management councils in Isabela and Cagayan also convened to discuss preventive measures.
A liquor ban has been enforced, while a no-sailing policy remained in effect since Thursday.
On Camiguin Island, specifically in the town of Calayan in Cagayan, fishermen relocated their boats to higher grounds as a precautionary measure against the potential danger of being carried away by strong waves.
“They usually do that before a typhoon batters the area,” said Dadao village councilor Robert Joe Arirao of Calayan.
