Scorching 48°C heat index hits Casiguran, Aurora
MANILA, Philippines — Casiguran, Aurora on Tuesday logged a heat index of 48 degrees Celsius, the third highest recorded in the country this year, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
The record-high heat index, which was recorded at 2:00 p.m., falls under the “danger” category, which ranges from 42 degrees Celsius to 51 degrees Celsius.
The heat index of Casiguran is only lower than the 50 degrees Celsius recorded in Legazpi City and 49 degrees Celsius in Aparri, Cagayan; Butuan City, Agusan del Norte and Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
The state weather bureau said a heat index under the “danger” category could likely cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, while heat stroke is probable with continued exposure to heat and the sun.
Heat index measures the level of discomfort an average person experiences due to combined effects of the temperature and air humidity.
