Record-high 50°C heat index scorches Legazpi City, Albay

The temperature range in Metro Manila until the weekend can reach up to 34 degrees Celsius, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Wednesday.

MANILA, Philippines — This year’s highest heat index of 50°C scorched Legazpi City, Albay, Friday morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The record-high heat index was recorded at 11:00 a.m.

It falls under the “danger” category, which ranges from 42 degrees Celsius to 51 degrees Celsius.

The state weather bureau said a heat index under the “danger” category could cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, while heat stroke is probable with continued heat/sun exposure.

Heat index measures the discomfort an average person experiences due to the combined effects of temperature and air humidity.
