COTABATO CITY — Nishrien Amatonding Barua, 22, whose family has been a beneficiary of the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), has not only passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) in the elementary level this year, she also landed on the top five among the board passers.
She garnered the passing rate of 91.40 per cent.
“She has proven that poverty is not a hindrance to (finish her) education, especially with the help of the government through 4Ps,” said Lawyer Raissa Jajurie, head of the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Jajurie described the youth’s academic performance throughout her college years as “exceptional.”
Barua, who graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Elementary Education degree from Mindanao State University main campus in Marawi City, came from a family in Malabang, Lanao del Sur, who has been receiving support from the 4Ps program. She was one of 4Ps’ household beneficiaries.
“She demonstrated exceptional academic performance throughout her college years,” Jajurie said, citing a report monitoring how 4Ps beneficiaries enjoyed the government assistance.
“This outstanding achievement is another milestone in the success of the program. It will inspire and motivate her fellow 4Ps household beneficiaries across BARMM,” Jajurie said. “This also highlights the vital role of education in unlocking the full potential of children for a brighter future.”
Barua said that even when she was still in college, she already started reviewing for the LET on her own and spending more time reading. “Board examinees should take the tests without self-doubt,” she said in her social media post.
BARMM’s youth group Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) lauded Barua for her “dedication, perseverance, and academic excellence.”
“You have brought pride not only to your family but also to the Bangsamoro community,” the BYC said in a statement. “May your success inspire other youth to strive for greatness. .. (M)ay your future endeavors continue to illuminate young minds and shape a brighter tomorrow.”
Another Bangsamoro youth who made it to the top 10 in the LET exams was Al-Zaheer Adil Abubakar of Notre Dame University in Cotabato City with a passing rate of 90.40 percent.
