6 fall in anti-gambling drive in Lipa City

2 teenagers nabbed in Batangas marijuana buy-bust

LUCENA CITY — Six suspected bet collectors for the illegal operation of Small Town Lottery (STL) called “bookies” were arrested on Monday, May 22, in Lipa City in Batangas province.

Batangas police reported Tuesday that anti-illegal gambling operatives with body cameras arrested Guillermo Medina, 58; Lazaro Olave, 60; Shirley Gubak, 58; Gerlito Benocilla, 66; Eutiquio Garing, 54; and Lazaro Olave, 60, in separate operations.

Seized from the suspects were STL bet collection forms, paraphernalia, calculators, and money bets of different denominations.

Police said the suspects failed to produce legitimate identification cards issued by Batangas Enhanced Technology Systems Inc., the licensed STL operator in the province.

The suspects were detained at the local police jail and face charges for violating Republic Act No. 9287 (An Act Increasing the Penalties for Illegal Numbers Game, Amending Certain Provisions of Presidential Act 1602, and for Other Purposes). INQ
