SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — A series of mild earthquakes on Tuesday, May 23, jolted the town of Cabangan in this province.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in an advisory that the first temblor, a magnitude 1.3, struck at 5:17 a.m. some 18 kilometers northeast of Cabangan It had a depth of 29 km and was tectonic in origin.
The two others, magnitudes 3.3 and 3.9, rattled Cabangan a few seconds apart around 6 a.m. and had a depth of 25 km and 24 km, respectively. Both were also tectonic in origin.
Intensity I was felt in Subic town, while instrumental intensities were recorded in Olongapo City (intensity III), Iba, and San Antonio in Zambales, Abucay and Dinalupihan in Bataan (intensity II), and San Marcelino, Zambales (intensity I) .
Phivolcs said they were not expecting damage or aftershocks. INQ
