BACOLOD CITY — Families whose homes were hit by a whirlwind on Thursday, May 18, started to rebuild their dwellings in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

Mayor Benjie Miranda on Friday, May 19, said the city government will give P4,000 to households whose houses were destroyed and P3,000 for those with damaged homes.

He also gave P1,000 to each of the affected families from his personal funds.

The whirlwind destroyed three houses and damaged seven others in Puroks Lower Baras, Upper Baras, and Kalubihan in Barangay Bantayan, Kabankalan City on Thursday.

No one was injured since most of the children were in school and their parents, who are mostly farmers, were working in the fields.

Miranda said food was also delivered to the victims.

“What is important is no lives were lost and no one was injured,” he said.
