PDP-Laban lauds Gonzales’ election as Senior Deputy Speaker

Rep. Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales, Jr. of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) was elected as Senior Deputy Speaker of the 19th Congress.

MANILA, Philippines–The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) on Thursday extended congratulations to Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales, Jr. on his election as Senior Deputy Speaker of the 19th Congress.

“We, in PDP Laban, congratulate our National Treasurer Rep. Aurelio ‘Dong’ Gonzales Jr. for having been elected as Senior Deputy Speaker of the 19th Congress,” said Rep. Jose C. Alvarez, PDP Laban National President, in a statement.

“We consider the move of the House of Representatives to elevate Rep. Gonzales to the second-highest position in the chamber as a recognition of our partymates’ invaluable contribution to the unprecedented work that the House has accomplished in less than a year of our term,” he said.

Alvarez emphasized PDP Laban’s commitment to the supermajority formed by Speaker Martin Romualdez in the House of Representatives. The party sees this collaboration as vital in achieving the necessary reforms to propel the country to greater heights.

“We continue to work hand-in-hand and in close partnership with Speaker Martin Romualdez, who has mobilized a multi-partisan coalition in the House of Representatives to help President Marcos deliver his commitment to our people,” said Alvarez.

“The election of Rep. Gonzales shows the strong ties and cooperation between the Speaker’s party, Lakas CMD, and PDP Laban in serving the Filipino people,” he said.

Gonzales is the national treasurer of PDP-Laban.

The party vowed to intensify efforts to revitalize the economy post-pandemic and improve the living conditions of the Filipino people.
