CHR to gov’t execs: Stop red-tagging teachers, students, groups
MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Monday appealed to government officials, particularly Vice President Sara Duterte, to heed their own calls for unity by desisting from red-tagging teachers, students, and civil organizations.
In a carefully worded statement, the CHR also expressed support for the progressive teachers’ group Alliance of Concerned Teachers, which asked for its help after getting red-tagged by the vice president over its proposal to hire more public teachers yearly.
“[The] CHR cannot stand idly by amid the persistent Red-tagging of students, educators, and civil organizations in the country,” the CHR said.
