Motorbiker dead, 1 hurt in Batangas road accident

A motorcycle rider dies and another one is hurt when their vehicles collided early Sunday, May 14, 2023, in Lipa City, Batangas province.

LUCENA CITY — A motorcycle rider died and another one was injured when their vehicles collided early Sunday, May 14, in Lipa City in Batangas province.

Jonathan Bautista, 23, was traveling along JP Laurel Highway in Barangay (village) Tambo at 12:05 a.m., when he switched lanes and consequently side-swept the motorcycle driven by Joshua Alex Lumbrera, 24, the Batangas police reported.

Both motorcycle riders lost control of their vehicle, were thrown off, and landed on the pavement.

FEATURED STORIES

They sustained injuries and were taken to the Lipa City District Hospital but Bautista died along the way.

The report did not say whether the victim was wearing a crash helmet for protection as mandated under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.

The police said both parties were open to an amicable settlement.
