Man nabbed in Mandaluyong City over P12.2M ‘shabu’ seized at Clark Freeport
CLARK FREEPORT ZONE, Pampanga — Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Central Luzon (PDEA 3) arrested a man on Thursday, May 11, over a package containing P12.24 million worth of alleged “shabu” (crystal meth) intercepted by authorities in this freeport recently.
The PDEA 3 said in a statement Friday that Joel Reyes, 42, was arrested in his residence at Barangay Highway Hills in Mandaluyong City after accepting a package containing illegal substances during a “controlled delivery operation.”
The PDEA 3 said Reyes used an alias – Kyle Puna Sanchez – as the package consignee.
Glen Guillermo, PDEA 3 information officer, said the box contained a pig stuffed toy, a toy rice cooker, and two medium-sized tin cans where the 1,808 grams of shabu were hidden.
It was learned that the package from San Jose, California in the United States, was intercepted at the Port of Clark on May 9.
“The interception of the subject illegal drugs in Port of Clark emanated from information received by PDEA International Cooperation and Foreign Affairs Service from foreign counterparts,” the PDEA 3 disclosed.
Reyes was arrested after accepting the package from PDEA 3 agents who posed as delivery personnel for a courier company.
Guillermo said PDEA 3 conducted the operation with PDEA Clark Inter Agency Interdiction Task Group, Bureau of Customs Port of Clark, PDEA-National Capital Region, and Mandaluyong City police.
Reyes faces charges of importation of dangerous drugs under Section 4 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. INQ
