QC cops nab Indian national for alleged robbery, illegal firearms

Authorities arrested a 30-year-old Indian national in Quezon City for an alleged robbery hold-up and illegal possession of firearm and explosive, the police said on Thursday.

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities arrested a 30-year-old Indian national in Quezon City for an alleged robbery hold-up and illegal possession of firearm and explosive, the police said on Thursday.

In a report, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said the Payatas Bagong Silang Police Station operatives identified and collared suspect Sandeep Singh along Ilang-Ilang St., Barangay Payatas on May 10 afternoon.

The QCPD said victim Kuldeep Singh, 30, went to Barangay Payatas to collect debt payments when the suspect pointed a gun behind him and declared a hold-up.

The latter took the former’s money, but the victim grabbed him before the suspect could leave. Police said this caught the attention of its patrolling officers and led to the suspect’s apprehension.

The victim’s P2,500, a sling bag, and an unlicensed gun were recovered from the suspect.

The suspect confessed that he was recently involved in robbery hold-up incidents within the city, which prompted authorities to conduct a follow-up operation at his residence and seize a hand grenade inside his drawer.

The QCPD said the suspect is currently under the police custody and faces charges of violations of the Republic Act (RA) 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and RA 9516, or the illegal possession of explosives, and will be referred to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
