PALO, Leyte — A human rights affairs office chief of the Philippine National Police assumed his post as director of the Eastern Visayas police on Saturday, May 6.
Brigadier Gen. Vincent Calanoga replaced Brigadier Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil who was named the officer-in-charge of the Directorate for Comptrollership at the police national headquarters in Quezon City.
Calanoga vowed to continue the relentless campaign of the government against illegal drugs.
He, however, reminded policemen to respect human rights “at all times.”
“We will continue the campaign against illegal drugs but we should also make sure that our police officers will respect human rights,” he said in an interview after the turnover rites at the Camp Ruperto Kangleon in Palo town.
Calanoga said there would be no revamp or reshuffling in the organization until he is able to review the performances of the policemen in the region.
“If we lack something, then we will do something to address it. We will help each other,” he said.
The turnover ceremony on Saturday was presided by Lt. Gen. Patrick Villacorte, the commander of the Area Police Command for Visayas; Tacloban City Mayor and Regional Peace and Order Council chairman Alfred Romualdez; and Regional Director Arnel Agabe of the Department of Interior and Local Government, among others.
