MANILA, Philippines — The country’s COVID-19 positivity rate increased to 19.3 percent on May 6, Octa Research fellow Guido David said Sunday.

David said that 1,878 new COVID-19 cases were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday which was higher than the 1,563 logged the day before. The number of fresh infection on May 6 drove positivity rate to rise to 19.3 percent from 17.8 percent on May 5.

He also said that based on the latest DOH figures, May 7 could see 1,400 to 16,000 new coronavirus cases.

“DOH reported 1,878 new cases, nine deaths (0 in NCR), 833 recoveries, and 10,195 active cases. [Around] 807 cases in NCR (National Capital Region), 149 in Cavite, 142 in Rizal. Projecting 1400-1600 new cases on May 7,” David said on Twitter.

He further noted that aside from Metro Manila or NCR, Cavite, and Rizal, other provinces and regions with the most number of new COVID-19 cases were Laguna with 90 cases; Bulacan (70); Camarines Sur (49); Davao del Sur (42); Iloilo (35); Albay (34); Batangas (33) Quezon (33); and Negros Occidental (30).

The DOH earlier said that as of May 6, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide reached 4,100,868.
