Nueva Vizcaya Governor Carlos Padilla

Nueva Vizcaya Gov. Carlos Padilla died on Friday morning at the age of 78 after suffering a heart attack, according to initial reports from his relatives and friends.

Details about his sudden demise have not been released at presstime.

Two days earlier, on Wednesday, May 3, Padila led the opening of a fresh vegetable depot at the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal.

Padilla was serving his third consecutive term as governor. He left his wife, Ruth, who also served as governor, and children Carlos “Jojo” II, Ruthie Maye, and Carlo Paolo.

The governor spent 29 years as representative of the Lone District of Nueva Vizcaya, including six years as assemblyman in the Batasang Pambansa during Martial Law. He once served as Deputy Speaker and was also a House Minority Leader.

In the mid-70s, Padilla was mayor of the then undivided Dupax in Nueva Vizcaya. When Dupax was divided into three towns, he continued to serve as mayor of Dupax Del Norte. The other towns are Dupax Del Sur and Alfonso Castañeda.
