5 injured in Zamboanga del Sur road mishap

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur— Five persons were injured when a truck carrying cell site batteries and alarm devices figured in a road accident in Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur on Thursday.

Police Executive Master Sergeant Phillip Basaya Jr .told the Inquirer that the incident happened in Purok 7, Lacupayan village at around 9:40 a m.

The truck driven by Celestino Babao, 62, was headed for Zamboanga City from Davao City.

Babao told authorities that upon reaching Lacupayan village, the vehicle’s brake malfunctioned.

The truck was loaded with 40 lithium-ion cell site batteries and 20 alarm systems owned by Globe Telecoms weighing around 2,500 kilograms.

Also aboard the truck were four technicians working as battery installers under ARCRED Construction Services.

They were identified as Lyroed Yecyec, 24, Rommel Rulona, 28, Rejan Potenciando, 29, and Efren Bong Morales, 22. They, together with Babao,  suffered minor injuries and were brought to the Tigbao rural health unit for first aid treatment.

The local government of Tigbao assisted in securing the items from the crashed vehicle for temporary safekeeping.
