TACLOBAN CITY — A policeman here is hunted down by colleagues after allegedly killing a woman believed to be his girlfriend on Wednesday, May 3.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Van Gregory Benitez, 44, was accused of shooting dead Jessica Durana, 30, using his service firearm.

Reports said the victim and her mother were walking along Barangay 43, Quarry District in Tacloban, at about 5:30 p.m. when the suspect suddenly followed them.

Moments later, Benitez shot the victim several times without provocation.

Durana was brought to the Tacloban City Hospital but did not make it alive.

Benitez immediately fled the crime scene.

Master Sgt. Anwar Usman, an officer on the case, said jealousy could be why the policeman killed the victim.

Based on their investigation, Durana and Benitez had a relationship.

The city police are conducting a manhunt operation against the suspect.
