An elderly woman from Tondo, Manila, brought many pet lovers to tears with a heartrending letter she wrote as she sought a new home for her beloved dog.
Lola Ignacia, the dog’s owner, penned the heartfelt letter hoping to find a compassionate individual willing to adopt and care for her unnamed dog with disabilities.
“Humihingi po ako ng pasensya dahil ako [ay] may karamdaman at ‘di ko na maalagaan ang aso ko na ‘di makatayo,” Lola Ignacia wrote.
(I ask for forgiveness as I have an illness and can no longer care for my dog, who cannot stand up independently.)
She poured her heart out in the letter explaining that she had to part ways with her dog after a debilitating stroke left her crippled, so she could no longer take care of it.
“Sa sino man po [na] makakakita sa kanya, [sana ay] mamahalin at aalagaan [nang] mabuti ang aso ko,” she went on to say.
(To whoever sees him, please love and take good care of my dog.)
As she concluded her letter, Lola Ignacia stated that she asked a tricycle driver to take her dog where it could receive proper care and begged whoever the adopter would be to continue her dog’s medical treatment.
Rescued by the power of social media
On May 1, Facebook user Love Yu posted the dog’s photos and said she initially rescued the dog after a concerned individual reported Lola Ignacia’s condition.
The next day, the animal welfare group Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) came to her place to rescue the dog and named it “Tonton.”
They also penned a heartfelt message to Lola Ignacia, assuring the latter that they would love and look after the welfare of her beloved dog.
“Ipagdadasal rin po namin kayo na lumakas at gumaling. At kung sakali man, bukas po ang aming tanggapan upang inyong makasamang muli ang inyong mahal na alaga,” AKF wrote in a social media post on Tuesday, May 2.

Meanwhile, the animal welfare group thanked those concerned individuals interested in helping Lola Ignacia and Tonton. They added that they sent the dog to their shelter in Capas, Tarlac, which will serve as its temporary home.
As of this writing, Love Yu’s post has garnered over 34,000 reactions and over 20,000 shares, with many expressing sympathy for Lola Ignacia and her cherished dog.
