LUCENA CITY – Quezon police seized more than P2.4 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested 1,215 suspected criminals in the province during their month-long operations in April.
In a report on Tuesday, May 2, Quezon police chief, Colonel Ledon Monte, said they nabbed 110 suspected drug traffickers and confiscated 120.5 grams of shabu (crystal meth) and 74.30 grams of marijuana in 89 buy-bust operations in 39 towns and two cities from April 1 to 30.
The confiscated illegal drugs have an estimated street value of P2,475,849.60, the report said.
The police also arrested 177 wanted criminals, 853 illegal gamblers, 54 illegal fishers, 15 illegal loggers and coconut cutters, four with undocumented firearms, and two alleged communist New People’s Army (NPA) rebels during the month-long operation.
Authorities also seized 10 undocumented firearms.
Monte also reported that last month, eight more towns in the province had been declared NPA-free.
As of May 2, the police, military, and local government officials granted 26 of 41 municipalities in the province with “Stable Internal Peace and Security” (SIPS) or insurgency-free status. The military and police evaluated and validated the declaration.
The NPA is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.
