COTABATO CITY — A freak tornado on  Monday hit a coastal village in  Maguindanao del Norte,  uprooting trees,  killing two cows and destroying fishermen’s motorboats.

Mayor Marshal Sinsuat of Datu Blah Sinsaut town confirmed the unusual weather phenomenon that hit the village of Nalkan.

Initial reports showed that the tornado destroyed four homes made of light materials, uprooted huge trees, and broke motorized bancas sheltered at the shoreline.

Residents said it was their first face-to-face experience with a tumultuous and violently rotating column of light debris in the air and touched the ground, sending leaves, trees, shanties and motorized bancas flying or thrown off the air.

Two large cattle were hit by falling huge trees, killing them instantly.

The morning after the weather disturbances, villagers, and local government workers helped clear the debris from the shoreline and from the village roads.

No villagers were reported injured.
