Workers to get free LRT-2, MRT-3 rides on Labor Day

As the Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) draws nearer, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday announced that it will offer free train rides in Metro Rail Transit Line 3 to military veterans and one companion.

MANILA, Philippines — In celebration of Labor Day, workers may avail of free rides at the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) during selected hours on May 1, said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Saturday.

“All you need to present is your Company ID or Government-issued ID. We welcome workers aged 18 years old and above to enjoy this special treat,” said Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino in a statement.

The free rides can be availed during the following hours:

“We hope that this small gesture of ours will bring joy and ease to your day. We thank you for your continued efforts and contributions to our nation. Let us celebrate Labor Day with pride and gratitude for all workers in the Philippines,” she said.

The free rides were upon the request of DOTr chief Jaime Bautista, who wanted to pay tribute to Filipino workers.

“This gesture will not only ease the financial burden of the workers but will importantly recognize their significant contributions to nation building and national development,” said Bautista.
